Charles 'CHUCK' Bearint

Passed away on May 31, 2012. Beloved husband of the late Anna May and dear father of Frances Anne Cooney, Patricia Bearint, Janice Ray O'Hara, Mary Keith Edginton, Charles and Brian Bearint. Also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Bearint was a WW II Army Veteran, serving in Patton's 3rd Army and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a self employed roofing contractor, former major league baseball player for the Phila. Athletics & Chicago Cubs. He received the lifetime Achievement Award from the Hot Stover's and was a member of the S. Jersey Baseball Hall of Fame. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Dr. Suite 300, Marlton NJ 08053 preferred Tribute to my Father Charles Chuck Bearint June 17, 1925 – May 31, 2012 Charles Chuck Bearint was born in Camden NJ Cramer Hill area June 17, 1925. He was the youngest of 12 children of Ephraim & Clara Bearint. He enjoyed his childhood in Cramer Hill and participated in all sports, but baseball was the one he excelled in the most. He graduated Woodrow Wilson High School where he was a 3-sport athlete in 1942-43. He was the All Group 3 catcher both years hitting .360 and .405 and went off to the army to serve when he was 18 years old. He fought under General George Patton's 3rd Army in the Battle of the Bulge where he received four battle stars. He returned home to marry the girl of his dreams, Anna May Dalton. Also, upon discharge, he signed with the Philadelphia Athletics, who optioned him to the Chicago Cubs where he played with their Welsh, West Virginia Farm Team of the Appalachian League in 1946. He was hitting .400 when he broke his ankle and spent the rest of the season recuperating. He was off to another great start in 1947 but when he learned that his first child was on the way, he gave up his pro career to be close to his family. Together, he and his beloved, Anna May, had six children and led a happy and peaceful life living in Cramer Hill – Camden, NJ until 1966 when they moved to Merchantville. He never stopped playing baseball, however, and played for some of the best semi-pro teams in South Jersey. In 1952 he led Defiance in the Aaron Twilight and R.T.C. to league titles in the Camden County. At the same time, he won the batting titles in both leagues, hitting .400 and .450 respectively. As a catcher he teamed up with some of the best pitchers in South Jersey, and during his 23 year semi-pro career never hit below .300. In 1963 he finished off his career with another championship with the Polish American Citizens Club hitting .400. He has been a member of the Hot Stovers for many years receiving "Hot Stover of the Year" award in 1977, 1978 and 1984 and in 1997 was awarded the Hot Stovers Lifetime Achievement Award. His work ethic is one of the highest of any man I've known; he worked tirelessly and never gave up. His accomplishments are too many to list: He was a roofing contractor and entrepreneur owning and operating Bearint Roofers for 40 years, an inventor, an excellent gourmet cook and baker, a well-known sportsman, a soldier, a builder, a handyman, a craftsman, a good Catholic, a loving husband and most of all a wonderful father and grandfather and great-grandfather to many loving children. We honor him and thank him for being there to protect us and take care of us all of our lives. They don't make them any better than Chuck Bearint, my dear friend and my fabulous father.
