Marilyn F. Ott

Marilyn F. Ott (née Learned), 99, entered eternal life on Tuesday, September 12th, 2023 peacefully, with her family at her side. She was a longtime resident of Pennsauken, New Jersey where she celebrated 70 years of marriage with her husband Matthew (Pete). For the last seven years, Marilyn resided at United Methodist Communities at Collingswood Manor, in Collingswood, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husband Matthew (Pete), her parents Francis M. and Mary R. Learned, and her sister Ruth M. Smith. She is survived by her brother John F. Learned, her children Jacqueline (Jonathan Bonner), Catherine Corrado (Neil), Stephen, Richard (Donna), Jonathan (Patricia), her grandchildren Thomas, Ondine, Christopher, Micaela, Ashley, Alicia, Amanda and Alexis, and her great-grandchildren Maddie, Nathan, Wesley, Owen and Isabella. Marilyn was born in Everett, Massachusetts and was raised in Malden, Massachusetts. Graduated from Malden High School in 1942, and in 1945 graduated, from St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing, in Brighton, Massachusetts. During Marilyn's first student nursing school assignment, she was placed at Camp Edwards in Cape Cod, Massachusetts as part of the Cadet Nurse Corps to aid the sick and wounded veterans of WWII. Here is where she first met her future husband Matthew at a USO dance. The young couple was married on April 27th, 1946. They moved to Camden, New Jersey and a few years later moved into the new house in Pennsauken. Here they raised their five children. While the children were growing up, Marilyn worked part-time as a nurse at Cooper Hospital in Camden. Later, fulltime at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, also in Camden, until she retired as a nursing administer in 1989. Nursing was a meaningful part of her life and she could not stay retired long. She went onto work as a visiting nurse, and very meaningful work as a hospice nurse and also administer Pastoral Care. She was also an active member of the New Jersey Nursing Association. While Marilyn and Pete visited her family in New England, they loved touring lighthouses on New England coast, and bicycling on the many trails in the area. Marilyn and Pete were both avid dancers and would go ballroom dancing on Saturday nights. Marilyn and Pete went on various Rose Garden tours sponsored by the Horticulture Society in the South-Jersey area. In her late 60s, Marilyn starting taking ballet classes continuing into her early 80s. Marilyn was a devoted parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Merchantville, New Jersey and served as an extraordinary minister and other ministries. Her love of Christ was most central in her life and also volunteered for the Sisters of the Poor Clares (as secular member of the monastery), in Chesterfield, New Jersey, the Secular Franciscans at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society (as secretary and treasury). Marilyn forged lifelong friendships from these organizations. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, from 8:30am to 9:30am at Inglesby & Sons Funeral Home, located at 2426 Cove Road., Pennsauken, New Jersey 08109. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, located at 43 W. Maple Ave., Merchantville, New Jersey 08109. Marilyn will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in 2398 Marlton Pike W, Cherry Hill, New Jersey 08002.
