Marjorie J. MacDougall

Marjorie Jean (Deering) MacDougall, of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Mount Laurel, NJ. died Sunday (July 9) at her home after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 87. Mrs. MacDougall was the wife of the late Howard W. MacDougall, a former city editor of the Courier-Post. She was born May 2, 1930 in Portland, ME, a daughter of the late Joseph A. Deering and the late Alvertia Morris Deering. She graduated from Moorestown (NJ) High School in 1949. Surviving are her two sons, David W. (Kathy) MacDougall of Charleston, SC, the Rev. Steven A. (Cheryl) MacDougall of Fort Wayne, IN; a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Schrank (the Rev. Jeffrey) of Phoenix, AZ; and a brother, James R. (Carolyn) Deering of Upton, MA. She had five grandchildren and four great-granddaughters. During the 1970s, Mrs. MacDougall was a bookkeeper at Farmers and Mechanics National Bank in Medford Lakes, NJ. In 1976, she moved to Charleston, where she worked for South Carolina National Bank and later the Medical University of South Carolina. She was a past-president of the Greater Camden (NJ) Jaycettes; and a life member of the Clan MacDougall Society of North America, the Scottish Society of Charleston, Lutherans for Life, the Moorestown (NJ) Lutheran Home Auxiliary, the International Lutheran Laymen's League and New Jersey Right to Life. She served on the executive board of Lutherans for Life, Delaware Valley Chapter. During her years in South Jersey, she was a member of Martin Luther Chapel in Pennsauken, Calvary Lutheran Church in Medford, and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lawrenceville. She loved singing in the choir and was a member of the Medford Lakes Chapter of Sweet Adelines. Marge loved talking with people, from checkout clerks at supermarkets to strangers on planes , she befriended everyone she met. And for close friends and family, she was always our biggest fan and cheerleader. She was not raised in a Christian home. In fact, she got baptized without her parents' consent when she was about 7 or 9, but she was a lifelong and constant example of unwavering faith in God. She has always belonged to Jesus, on loan to us by the goodness of God, and heaven is her home. God grant that each person reading this would know His abundant mercy and grace and the salvation offered through Jesus Christ. Relatives and friends of the family are kindly invited to attend her Visitation Tuesday (July 18) 10-11 a.m. at Martin Luther Chapel in Pennsauken, NJ. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.
